(Reuters) – The Indian cricket board announced on Friday that India’s vice-captain Hardik Pandya will not be able to play in Sunday’s World Cup match against New Zealand due to an injury.
Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while attempting to stop a shot with his foot during India’s seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday.
The board’s secretary, Jay Shah, stated in a press release that “the all-rounder was taken for scans and has been advised to rest. He will be under constant observation by the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.”
Pandya, who has taken five wickets for India in the first three matches of the tournament, will rejoin the team in Lucknow before the game against defending champions England on October 29, according to Shah.
