(Reuters) – Sri Lanka’s cricket team has suffered another setback in the World Cup as seamer Lahiru Kumara has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to a left thigh muscle injury sustained during training in Pune. The International Cricket Council announced this on Sunday.
Kumara, who played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s victory over defending champions England with figures of 3-35 in Bengaluru on Thursday, will be replaced by pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera.
Sri Lanka, the 1996 champions, currently stand fifth in the table with two wins from five matches. In their upcoming match against Afghanistan at Pune’s MCA International Stadium on Monday, they will aim to secure a semi-final spot.
This injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for Sri Lanka at the World Cup. The team has already seen three replacements in their 15-member squad due to injuries. Chamika Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews were brought in to replace regular skipper Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana.
