SUCCESSFUL APPEAL: Australian opener David Warner’s baggy green cap has been found after it went missing in transit from Melbourne to Sydney. Warner had to wear a replacement on the opening day of the third test against Pakistan.
Warner expressed his relief and gratitude in an Instagram post, stating that he will cherish the recovered cap for the rest of his life. He also thanked those involved in locating it, calling it “a load off my shoulders going into the last couple of days.”
Despite the ordeal, Warner made 34 in Australia’s first innings on Thursday and is expected to have another chance to bat at his home Sydney Cricket Ground in his final test.
The baggy green cap is a symbol of pride for Australian cricketers, often received from a former player on the morning of their test debut and cherished even as it deteriorates over time.
In January 2020, the baggy green cap of Australian cricketing great Shane Warne was sold for A$1,007,500 at an auction.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also joined Warner’s appeal for the return of the rucksack, emphasizing the significance of the missing cap.
The recovered cap will provide Warner with a sense of closure as he prepares for the last few days of his 112th and final test for Australia.
