According to Reuters, English left-arm seamer David Willey has decided to withdraw from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to personal reasons. Lucknow Super Giants, the team Willey was playing for, will now have New Zealander Matt Henry as his replacement, as announced by the league organisers on Saturday.
Willey had retired from international cricket after the 50-overs World Cup in India last year, and he had missed Lucknow’s IPL opener against Rajasthan Royals last week. Mark Wood, another English player from Lucknow, had also left the team earlier in the season to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.
Matt Henry, a fast bowler from New Zealand, has previously represented Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He will now join Lucknow at his base price of $123,000.
Lucknow Super Giants will face off against Punjab Kings in their second match on Saturday.
