England’s World Cup title defense may be in ruins after losing four out of five matches, but assistant coach Marcus Trescothick believes that the team will still relish their upcoming clash against hosts India. England emerged as the favorites for the tournament after winning the title on home soil in 2019 and capturing the Twenty20 World Cup last year. However, defeats against New Zealand, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have put their chances of advancement in jeopardy.

Trescothick expressed the importance of England seeing their match against India in Lucknow on Sunday as an opportunity for players to regain confidence and for the batting unit to display their best performance. He emphasized the significance of playing against India in their own country during a World Cup. Despite the challenging circumstance, Trescothick and the team are looking forward to the occasion and hope to emerge victorious.

With four matches remaining, Jos Buttler’s side must win all of them and also depend on other results to secure a place in the knockout stages. Nonetheless, Trescothick stated that their main focus is on improving their own performance rather than fixating on the daunting task ahead. While acknowledging the mathematical possibility of advancement, he admitted that the path to qualification is very tough.

Trescothick reiterated that England has not lost faith in the 50-overs format, given their success in the previous World Cup. The team enjoys playing all forms of cricket and had a strong desire to win consecutive 50-overs competitions. They remain fully committed to excelling in all formats of the game.
