Adam Zampa of Australia, despite not considering it his best performance, recognized the importance of his contribution against Sri Lanka in Monday’s World Cup match. Following two consecutive defeats, the five-time champions Australia moved up from the bottom of the points table with a five-wicket victory against the 1996 champions Sri Lanka. The win was made possible by the exceptional performance of their bowlers who dismissed Sri Lanka for 209 in less than 44 overs, allowing Australia’s batters to complete the chase with approximately 15 overs to spare.

Zampa, who claimed 4-47, was awarded the player-of-the-match recognition. He admitted experiencing discomfort while bowling due to back spasms he has been suffering from in recent days. The 31-year-old spinner stated, “I’ve had days where I’ve felt better and bowled better. Personally, I know I’m not at my best, but it’s nice to be on this end of the result tonight.”

Previously, Zampa had a poor performance against India, failing to take any wickets and conceding 70 runs in his 10 overs. Against South Africa, he only managed to take one wicket, that of Rassie van der Dussen, and conceded 70 runs. Despite these challenges, Zampa did not alter his approach in the match against Sri Lanka. He emphasized maintaining his wicket-taking attitude because it has been effective for him regardless of conceding runs or not.

Looking ahead, Zampa acknowledged the upcoming tough match against Pakistan but expressed his intention to maintain consistency in his approach. He concluded, “I am going to try and keep things the same for me.”
