Na’imah Abdul Khalid, the wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, has announced her intention to appear in court and contest the charges brought against her by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
She had promised to provide a statement to the MACC after her husband’s medical procedure on Tuesday, but she will now be attending court and fighting the charge despite requesting a 24-hour postponement.
She made this announcement late Monday, stating that she will indeed be present in court to defend herself.
Na’imah is expected to appear in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 9am to face charges under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act for allegedly failing to declare her assets.
Last month, the MACC seized the family-owned Menara Ilham as part of their investigations into the matter.
The MACC has stated that their investigations into Daim and his family were conducted in accordance with existing laws and information obtained from the Pandora Papers.
On January 10, Daim and his family filed an application for leave to commence a judicial review against the MACC’s probe. Their application named the MACC and the public prosecutor as the first and second respondents respectively.
