Former Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy has announced that he will contest as an Independent candidate in the upcoming state election on August 12.
Muniandy, who has been with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) for 15 years, has resigned from the party and submitted his resignation letter to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke. He cited his decision to go independent as a means to save the party from what he described as a ‘tyrant’.
During a press conference held in Butterworth on July 28, Satees expressed his sorrow at leaving the party, mentioning that there were fellow party members who chose to stay silent.
Notably, Satees’ decision to contest as an independent follows the recent move of Seberang Prai City (MBSP) councillor David Marshel, who also resigned from the DAP and will run as an independent candidate in Perai.
In the upcoming election, Satees plans to use the tagline “Penang is ours” to convey a strong message that the people will not be intimidated by the actions of a single individual who has caused significant dissatisfaction within the party.
