On December 29th, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has reported that the death toll from flooding in Ladysmith Town, South Africa has reached 14, with 10 people still missing.
The heavy rains that occurred on December 24th caused the Bellspruit River to overflow onto the N11 road in Ladysmith, resulting in the devastating flood.
Search and rescue teams, in collaboration with the police, are continuing their efforts to find the missing individuals, according to Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi, a representative from the department.
Sithole-Moloi emphasized the importance of families reporting their missing loved ones promptly in order to aid in the mobilization of search teams and to secure support from disaster relief organizations.
The South African Weather Service has warned that rainfall is expected to persist in various areas of KwaZulu-Natal, prompting Sithole-Moloi to urge caution when traveling in the affected areas.
