On Tuesday, local authorities reported that a bus accident in Peru’s Corongo province resulted in 20 fatalities and 6 injuries. The tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a bus operated by La Perla del Altomayo transport company veered off highway PE-12A along the Tarica-Yanac tract, plunging into a ravine approximately 300 meters deep.
The bus was en route from La Libertad in the north to the capital city of Lima at the time of the accident, as reported by the news radio station, Radio Programas del Peru.
Carlos Pinedo, the Mayor of Yanac district, attributed the crash to the poor state of the road and urged the central government to address the issue and make necessary improvements to the roadway, according to local media.
The injured individuals were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
