(Reuters) – According to Edison Research, Tom Suozzi, a Democratic former U.S. Representative, emerged victorious in a congressional special election in New York on Tuesday. This win serves to further narrow the already razor-thin Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, which has been struggling to pass legislation.
The special election was necessitated after the House made the unprecedented move of expelling Republican George Santos. Santos had been embroiled in a scandal involving a multitude of falsehoods about his personal history, ultimately leading to an indictment on fraud charges.
