In a recent announcement, Denmark revealed a new military aid package for Ukraine amounting to 1.7 billion crown ($247.4 million) and called on allies to increase their contributions to help Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

This new aid package will bring Denmark’s total donations to Ukraine to 33.3 billion crowns since the invasion by Russia two years ago. As a member of NATO, Denmark has steadfastly supported Ukraine and is one of the largest providers of military aid relative to its economy size.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the urgency of additional donations for Ukraine to succeed on the battlefield, expressing the hope that more countries will follow Denmark’s lead to provide immediate support rather than waiting six or twelve months.

Denmark, alongside the Netherlands and the United States, is leading a coalition to assist Ukraine in establishing a future air force and plans to deliver its first batch of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine during the upcoming summer, according to Frederiksen.

The funding for this new donation will be sourced from the 7 billion crowns that Denmark allocated to the fund for civil, military, and business donations to Ukraine in March of last year.

In addition to providing substantial military aid, Denmark has also joined other allies in signing a 10-year security agreement with Ukraine. This comes as part of a collective effort with countries like the UK and Germany.
