Two individuals, a department head and a company director, have been detained for a period of five and four days from Feb 6 to Feb 10 and Feb 9 respectively by the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). This detention is related to an investigation into false claims amounting to RM49,900 that were made last year. The duo, aged 42 and 41, were apprehended by the MACC after giving statements at the agency’s office on the evening of Feb 5.
According to reports, the two suspects colluded to make false claims regarding the supply for an event held in the state last year, despite the supply never actually occurring. The case is currently under investigation in accordance with Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. This section entails a penalty of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, as well as a maximum imprisonment of 20 years. – Bernama
