Malaysia has the potential to emerge as a significant nation and play a vital role on the global stage without being influenced by external forces, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister emphasized that this can be achieved if the people of Malaysia, particularly civil servants, exhibit discipline and integrity in upholding moral values and combating corruption out of a genuine belief in doing what is right, rather than just to avoid punishment from authorities.

During the “Malaysia Madani Executive Dialogue of Civil Servants 2024 with the Prime Minister”, Anwar addressed around 1,000 civil servants in Putrajaya. He encouraged them to use the Quran as a source of guidance and study the historical examples of leaders who were initially labeled as “terrorists” by their adversaries but ultimately led their countries to greatness.

Anwar emphasized the importance of observing discipline and integrity, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, not out of fear of repercussions, but driven by faith. He highlighted the prevalent acceptance of corruption and the misguided notion that leaders must be wealthy, stressing that Malaysia possesses immense potential to become a prominent player on the global stage.

He underlined the need to speak out against corruption and resist the culture of endemic corruption that hampers national progress. Anwar recounted his recent visits to countries like Australia and Germany, where he did not shy away from raising the issue of Palestine, asserting that Malaysia should determine its allies based on its own sovereignty.

Anwar drew parallels with historical figures like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, who were initially vilified by the ruling powers but revered as heroes by their people. He highlighted the importance of upholding national sovereignty and integrity, citing his vocal support for Hamas while sitting next to the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

He declared his belief that his stance reflected the sentiments of the majority of Malaysians and called for unity and confidence among the people to transform Malaysia into a nation of great influence and power. Anwar’s impassioned speech resonated with the audience of civil servants, who applauded his vision for a stronger and more principled Malaysia.
