Domestic Trade Ministry probing conditional sugar sale in three states

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living is currently investigating complaints regarding the conditional sale of granulated sugar at various business premises. The complaints, which have been received from Perlis, Kelantan, and Perak, are being taken seriously by the ministry.

Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof, the ministry’s secretary-general, confirmed that appropriate action will be taken against the traders involved, in accordance with Section 19 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. He made this statement during the launch of the Mobile Rahmah Sale programme at the Wang Kelian Arcade in Padang Besar on September 2.

Fakhrul Anwar Ismail, the chairman of the State Housing and Local Government, Vendors and Small Traders, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Entrepreneur Development, Small and Medium Industries Committee, and Norazah Jaapar, the director of the Perlis Ministry, were also present at the event.

It was reported that a business premises in Batu Gajah was raided by the ministry for engaging in the conditional sale of granulated sugar. The authorities are cracking down on such practices to ensure fair and transparent trade in the country.
