MUAR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Perikatan Nasional chairman, criticized the government for blaming the Opposition for the fall of the ringgit. He emphasized that as the ruling party, the government should take responsibility for its own actions instead of shifting blame.

According to Muhyiddin, the government has the power and authority to manage the country, and therefore should own up to any failures. He made these remarks during the Chinese New Year celebration at his Pagoh constituency, highlighting the importance of accountability.

He also mentioned that the lack of trust in the government is contributing to the current economic situation. Muhyiddin pointed out that the people’s confidence in the government’s ability to lead the country is diminishing, impacting the economy negatively.

Muhyiddin’s comments were in response to Umno former Minister Salleh Said Keruak’s statement attributing the fall of the ringgit and the economic crisis to the Opposition’s continuous efforts to remove the government. Salleh believed that the Opposition’s actions have affected investors’ confidence.

Furthermore, Muhyiddin dismissed claims made by Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal regarding several Bersatu MPs declaring their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He criticized Syed Abu Hussin for interfering in party matters and labeled him as an irresponsible party member.

Syed Abu Hussin had stated that several Bersatu MPs were planning to leave the party during the upcoming Parliament sitting due to feeling neglected and disappointed. This announcement came from the group of six Bersatu MPs who had previously expressed their support for Anwar.

Muhyiddin reaffirmed his party’s stance and expressed that he had not received any information regarding Bersatu MPs defecting to support Anwar. He emphasized that any issues within the party should be handled internally without external interference.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, these statements and counterclaims highlight the underlying tensions and power struggles within the Malaysian political sphere. The government’s ability to address economic challenges and maintain stability in the face of internal dissent will be crucial in shaping the country’s future.

Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the government to instill confidence in its leadership and policies, ensuring that the country’s economic well-being is protected. As discussions and debates unfold, the Malaysian public will closely monitor the actions and decisions of their elected representatives, seeking accountability and transparency in governance.
