Datuk Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong is stressing the importance of not neglecting the country’s farmers despite the emphasis on economic development. He emphasizes the need to not overlook agricultural production as the country focuses on economic growth, adding that discussions about the country’s agriculture industry and food safety policies are common in Parliament.
In a Facebook post on Sunday (Feb 4), the MCA president and Ayer Hitam MP mentioned that he met with the Yong Peng Federation of Farmers Associations for an interaction session to understand the issues they face. He also highlighted the shortage of corn, which has led to a rise in poultry prices, and called for the government to closely monitor the poultry market and introduce a comprehensive plan to ensure a sufficient supply of food for all Malaysians. Their feedback would be forwarded to the relevant departments, and around 80 farmers were given fertiliser following the meeting.
Dr Wee also mentioned in a separate post that his service centre continued the annual tradition of passing gifts to the underprivileged in conjunction with the Chinese New Year. He met with 37 dialysis patients, shared a meal with them, and had an early celebration of the Lunar New Year with them.
