JEMPOL: In an address to candidates from all parties, Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor emphasized the importance of always considering the Orang Asli community. The Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat urged candidates not to limit their focus on the community to only election seasons.

He stated, “When you win, never forget them. When we look at statistics, the Orang Asli are the poorest. Whatever you promise, deliver it. Don’t think about your own benefit. Always emphasize the people.” He made these remarks after attending a program at Kampung Orang Asli Panchor on August 3.

Mohd Ramli, the only Orang Asli Member of Parliament in Cameron Highlands, also highlighted the significance of education. He encouraged individuals to develop their minds and seek education as a means to escape poverty and contribute to the economy.

To parents, he said, “Make a sacrifice. If there is a chance for your children to further their education, allow them to do so. If they’re not academically inclined, encourage them to pursue technical and vocational education and training (TVET) certification.” Ramli, who serves as the chairman of the Orang Asli Advancement and Development secretariat, added, “Who says the Orang Asli can’t be successful? I myself have various academic qualifications and was a former senior police officer.”

During his speech, Ramli also announced the approval of a bridge connecting Kampung Panchor to Kampung Batu Petir. He urged the future assemblyman to oversee the project and ensure its smooth implementation. He also emphasized the importance of visiting the Orang Asli communities and encouraged candidates to engage with them.

Ramli further announced the approval of infrastructure projects to provide clean water to five Orang Asli villages in the area, crediting Jempol MP Datuk Shamsulkahar Mohd Deli for his efforts. He expressed his commitment to ensuring that all Orang Asli villages in the area have adequate facilities.

Notably, in the upcoming August 12 state election, Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir, representing Barisan Nasional, will be contesting against Perikatan Nasional’s Suresh Sreenivasan for the Jeram Padang seat.
