Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 98, has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for an undisclosed infection, sources told The Star on Tuesday (Aug 1).
According to the sources, Dr Mahathir is responding well to treatment and is expected to be released from the hospital by Friday (Aug 4). Another official close to Dr Mahathir has confirmed that the former leader is not in any immediate danger.
Over the years, the veteran politician has faced several health issues, including multiple heart attacks and undergoing bypass surgery in 2007. Additionally, in August last year, he was hospitalized for Covid-19 after testing positive.
