PETALING JAYA: As the Mahkota by-election approaches, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is seen spending time with the people of Kluang, Johor.

Dr Wee in a Facebook post said he immediately felt a sense of muhibbah after seeing customers of different races enjoying their meals at a coffee shop there.

“After lunch hours, I came to Kluang Lim Coffee and immediately felt a sense of muhibbah seeing customers of different races enjoying their meals together.

“There are many food choices available, including Hainanese chicken rice, curry mee, fried mihun, Malay kuih and coffee.

“I also took the opportunity to introduce to them the background of Mahkota by-election Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien and it was encouraging to see many of them cheering for him,” he wrote on Friday (Sept 20).

In another post, Dr Wee said he spent time with two veterans from the district, namely Datuk Jimmy Low Boon Hong who is a former Johor exco member and Datuk Dr Suchdav, Johor Bus Operators Association chairman.

Dr Wee said that during the meet-up, Low shared that he had been friends with the Barisan candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah’s family.

“Datuk Jimmy mentioned, “It has been three generations. I have always shared a close relationship with BN candidate Syed Hussien’s family.

“I am close to Syed Hamid (the candidate’s grandfather) and Syed Abdullah (the candidate’s father) and of course, Syed Hussien is no stranger to me.”,” Dr Wee said in his Facebook post, adding that Low also reminisced about his days as a state assemblyman over four decades ago.

Dr Wee also commended the coffee culture in Kluang, which he referred to as unique.

“This has encouraged the development of coffee shops for customers from various backgrounds.

“On top of that, there are five well-known coffee brands from this little town and the setting up of coffee shop franchises throughout Malaysia,” he said.

The Mahkota state by-election on Sept 28 will feature a straight fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates.
