KOTA KINABALU: A fatal accident occurred in northern Kota Belud district on Tuesday, when a man lost control of his car and collided with a lorry, resulting in his death and injuries to his two passengers. The incident took place at Jalan Kota Belud–Kota Marudu, near Kampung Wakap at 7.49am. Kota Belud OCPD Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain provided details of the accident, stating that the car was travelling from Kota Marudu to Kota Belud town when the collision happened.
The car driver was killed instantly, while his 20- and 41-year-old passengers sustained injuries and were promptly taken to Kota Belud district hospital for treatment. The lorry driver, aged 41, and his two passengers, aged 18 and 27, were fortunate to escape unharmed, Supt Shahrudin reported.
Meanwhile, in Labuan, a woman’s body was discovered washed up on Pantai Kiansam beach at 12.30pm on Monday (Jan 22). The 58-year-old victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was believed to be a resident of the nearby Kiansam refugee resettlement scheme. Labuan OCPD Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim confirmed that the authorities have ruled out foul play but appealed for information from the public to assist in the investigation.
