Another incident of accidental acceleration occurred in Melaka within 24 hours after a 16-year-old reversed a car into an eatery.
The latest case happened at 10.40am on Sunday (Aug 27) when a 25-year-old driver without a valid driving license unintentionally accelerated a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and hit and injured a motorcyclist.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit stated that the accident took place at Taman Melaka Raya when the SUV driver from Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur claimed that he attempted to avoid the 29-year-old motorcyclist while driving out from a lane adjourning to the main road.
According to ACP Christopher Patit, the motorcyclist was riding on the main road and was hit by the SUV driver before the vehicle stopped at the entrance of a business premise along the street.
The motorcyclist from Kampung Paya Ikan here fortunately only sustained minor injuries.
“The driver allegedly pressed the accelerator pedal of his vehicle while trying to avoid the oncoming motorcyclist before colliding with him and almost crashing into the shop,” he explained.
