JOHOR BARU: More than RM3mil worth of drugs were seized in a special operation involving four raids in Johor Baru and Tangkak, says Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar.
He said that two local suspects were arrested during the operation that ran from Saturday (Aug 3) to Wednesday (Aug 7).
“We have seized some RM3.44mil worth of drugs following the arrest of the first suspect, a 33-year-old man. This led us to the arrest of the second suspect in Tangkak.
“We believe that the syndicate was distributing drugs for the local market and has been active since June this year,” he said at a press conference at the Johor police headquarters.
Comm Kumar added that the drugs seized included 18.63kg of ecstasy powder, 24.08g of ketamine, 15.20g of ecstasy pills, and 13.60g of Erimin 5 pills.
“We have also seized 115 bottles of juice believed to have been mixed with drugs and 55 containers of jelly which are believed to have been laced with ecstasy.
“One bottle of the juice was sold for RM200, while one container of the jelly was priced between RM150 and RM200,” he said.
Comm Kumar added that this was the first time the Johor police had come across ecstasy in the form of jelly.
He added that the drugs seized could feed the addiction of 227,546 individuals.
“They have been trying to hide from detection by using a car to store and hide the drugs instead of a house,” he said, adding that the police also seized a car, two motorcycles and RM160 worth of cash during the operation.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and if not sentenced to death, with not less than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
