PUTRAJAYA: The attempt to overthrow the unity government, known as the “Dubai Move,” has been confirmed to have failed by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister dismissed the alleged meeting in Dubai as a “waste of time” and stated that initial intelligence and subsequent information led to the conclusion that the meeting was a fruitless endeavor.

When asked who had wasted their time attending the meeting, Ahmad Zahid simply responded, “Those attending it.” This statement was made in response to recent reports about the alleged Dubai Move. The plot to topple Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani government was alleged to have been organized by Perikatan Nasional leaders and government backbenchers vacationing in the United Arab Emirates.

According to Ismail Yusop, a meeting during the visit involved assigning specific tasks to “agents” responsible for identifying MPs who may want to switch their support to the opposition. However, several Umno leaders have since dismissed the alleged move.

On Monday (Jan 2), Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad took action against a YouTuber for accusing him of being involved in the Dubai Move to oust the government. Abdul Rahman filed a police report to clear his name and distance himself from the allegations.

Prior to this, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Umno president, stated that there is currently an anti-hopping law against elected MPs switching allegiance in an attempt to change government. He emphasized that a maneuver such as the alleged Dubai Move could only be feasible if the entire party decides en bloc to switch allegiance to form a government.
