DUBAI, July 9 (Xinhua) — Dubai plans to significantly expand its electric vehicle charging infrastructure in order to support green mobility.
According to the UAE official WAM news agency, the city aims to increase the number of charging stations by 170 percent to reach 1,000 by 2025.
Currently, Dubai has 370 charging stations, as reported by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. However, this number is expected to rise dramatically in the coming years to meet the city’s sustainability goals.
As part of its commitment to clean energy, Dubai has set a target to generate 100 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2050.
Additionally, the city has implemented a long-term strategy to transition towards net-zero emission public transport by 2050.
The adoption of electric vehicles in Dubai has seen a remarkable growth over the years. From a mere 14 electric vehicle owners in 2015, the city now boasts over 11,000 by the end of May 2023.
This trend is expected to continue, with Dubai aiming to have more than 42,000 electric cars on its roads by 2030, as stated in the WAM report.
