SHAH ALAM: According to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the people’s personal data is not being misused for the Selangor General Insurance Scheme (Insan). The Selangor Mentri Besar clarified that the state government obtained lawful public data from the Election Commission, which was solely used to pre-register potential recipients for insurance coverage. Amirudin stated that those who were pre-registered needed to verify their identities by submitting a selfie with their identification cards. Only after verification, their information would be added to the system.
Amirudin addressed allegations from certain individuals that personal data was being used without their consent to register them for the Insan scheme. He assured that the insurer for the scheme would provide a detailed explanation of how the registration and issuance of insurance policies would be conducted.
Furthermore, Amirudin explained that the pre-registration process aimed to eliminate time-consuming individual registrations. However, he emphasized that stricter control would be implemented, especially in cases of violating the Personal Data Protection Act 2012.
