CAIRO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) — Egypt has constructed 24 smart cities in recent years and aims to increase that number to 38 by 2050, according to Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday.

Madbouly made this announcement during the opening session of the three-day conference “Story of Homeland” held in the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo to showcase the government’s achievements in the past decade.

These smart cities, which prioritize digital solutions and sustainable technology in urban areas, include recently inaugurated cities like New Mansoura City in the Nile Delta region, Al Galala City in northeast Egypt, and New Aswan City in southern Egypt, he further stated.

In addition to the smart cities, Madbouly addressed efforts being made to address Egypt’s housing problem, stating, “Egypt has implemented a housing program, constructing 1.5 million residential units in both new and existing cities.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s initiative to enhance housing conditions for residents in 357 unsafe residential areas across the country by constructing 300,000 apartments.
