CAIRO, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) — The 55th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) was officially opened by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Wednesday. According to a statement from the Egyptian cabinet, the fair is hosting 1,200 publishers and 5,250 exhibitors from 70 countries.
The 55th CIBF will run from Jan. 24 to Feb. 6 under the slogan “We Create Knowledge, We Preserve the Word,” and will be open to the public on Thursday. Madbouly emphasized the fair’s importance in connecting Egyptian culture with other Arab and international cultures, highlighting its role in representing Egypt’s cultural influence.
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Culture Neveen Al-Kilany stated that despite global challenges, the fair managed to attract 1,200 publishers, 153 more than the previous edition. This year, Norway is the guest of honor at the fair, which will occupy an area of 80,000 square meters, including five large exhibition halls at Egypt International Exhibition Center.
CIBF will feature a cultural program with numerous activities such as seminars, conferences, and the participation of authors, publishers, poets, intellectuals, and other notable figures. Established in 1969, CIBF is one of the largest and oldest book fairs in the Middle East.
