According to QUITO (Reuters), police have stated that Eleven prison staff who were previously held by inmates at the Esmeraldas prison in Ecuador have been liberated on Saturday.
These individuals were part of a group of 158 guards and 20 administrative staffers who had been taken captive since Monday in at least seven different prisons. This comes as the country has experienced a significant surge in violence.
