Wildfires in Canada’s Northwest Territories have resulted in the evacuation of the entire town of Hay River. The town, which is located on the Great Slave Lake, is home to approximately 4,000 people. Authorities have ordered everyone, including essential workers, to go to the Hay River Merlyn Carter Airport and await further instructions.

The government of the Northwest Territories has issued an alert stating that anyone who remains in Hay River does so at their own risk. They also stated that there will be no emergency services or response available.

This year, Canada is facing its most severe wildfire season on record. Over the past week, more than 50,000 individuals, including the entire population of the Northwest Territories’ capital Yellowknife, have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the fires.

Furthermore, the fires have disrupted mail services to multiple communities in the Northwest Territories, as announced by the government in a subsequent alert.
