Argentinians are trying to find relief from the scorching heat as temperatures approach 40 degrees Celsius (104°F). Diego Gatti, a merchant in Buenos Aires, described the situation as “everything is melting” and highlighted the challenges faced by those living inland. He contrasted this with those living near the coast who have access to water and a breeze to help cool down.
The country, which is home to around 45 million people, is a significant producer of grains such as soy, corn, and wheat. Hundreds of people have been visiting rivers in an attempt to beat the heat, with many choosing to cool off under colorful showers. Authorities have issued a red alert for high temperatures across the country.
Sergio Pavon, a 47-year-old local, shared his struggle with the heat, stating that even with air conditioning, it isn’t enough to combat the extreme temperatures. Many are choosing to escape the heat by seeking out places like the river to spend time with their families and find some relief from the heat.
