PETALING JAYA: A shocking video has gone viral on TikTok, showing a scammer making aggressive threats to extort money from a victim by claiming to have kidnapped their child. The scammer demanded a ransom of RM50,000, warning the victim to pay up if they wanted their child to be safe.
In the video, the scammer was recorded asking the victim about the mode of payment for the ransom. However, the victim remained calm and demanded to know his child’s name before discussing anything further. Sensing the victim’s skepticism, the scammer failed to provide the child’s name and quickly changed the subject before abruptly ending the call.
The video, posted by TikTok user @hafizahassan2023 just two days ago, has already garnered over 2.1 million views. This incident follows a series of similar virtual ransom kidnapping cases that have been reported in the Klang Valley over the past month.
According to Brickfields OCPD ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor, the police have received four reports of scammers pretending to be kidnappers. He revealed that the reports were made between June 13th and 15th, with one woman receiving a call from an unknown person who claimed to have kidnapped her child and demanded ransom money.
