A tragic incident occurred at an old folks home in Section 5, Petaling Jaya, resulting in the death of a 69-year-old woman. Fortunately, 14 other residents were able to escape unharmed.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at approximately 12.13am on Tuesday, August 1st. Promptly responding to the call, three officers, 11 personnel, and two fire engines were dispatched to the scene. They found that 30% of the building had been destroyed by the fire.
All 14 residents and the caretaker were able to evacuate safely without sustaining any injuries. However, tragically, the 69-year-old woman who was in her room at the time did not manage to escape and lost her life in the fire. Thankfully, civilians were able to extinguish the flames before the fire and rescue department arrived at the scene.
