According to local authorities, the accident was caused by overspeeding, as the vehicle involved was en route to a traditional wedding ceremony.
The police issued a statement, stating, “Upon reaching Ayago in Murchison Falls National Park, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to two others.”
The deceased were transported to Anaka mortuary, while the injured individuals were promptly taken to a nearby general hospital for treatment,” the police added.
Robert Abak, the resident district commissioner of Nebbi, who was supposed to welcome the wedding guests, expressed his sorrow, stating, “It is unfortunate that among the deceased was a former legislator. The driver may have fallen asleep, leading to the loss of control.”
