On Friday, a new cultural platform called the “Hanfu costume society” was launched at the China Cultural Center in Malta, allowing fans of Chinese culture in Malta to immerse themselves in the secrets of Hanfu costumes – traditional clothing worn by the Han people. The initiative is expected to enhance cultural exchanges between China and Malta and demonstrate the richness of traditional Chinese culture. Yuan Yuan, director of the China Cultural Center, expressed this at the launch event.
Hanfu clothing is known for its unique design, exquisite craftsmanship, and profound cultural significance. It has seen a resurgence in popularity among young Chinese people, with more and more choosing to wear it. Yu Cheng, a five-year resident of Malta, has decided to share her collection of over 40 Hanfu sets at Hanfu-themed activities hosted by the China Cultural Center. Participants will have the opportunity to time-travel by trying on these rare traditional garments.
In an interview with Xinhua, Yu, who manages the Hanfu society, shared her passion for Hanfu and her desire to promote Chinese culture through traditional clothing. She has included styles from the Western Han Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty, the Song Dynasty, and the Ming Dynasty in her collection, with about half of her pieces being custom-made from silk, kesi, and Suzhou embroidery.
Yu’s love for Hanfu has led her to wearing it as her daily attire, drawing curiosity from onlookers as she goes about her day. She expressed her pride in preserving and promoting traditional Chinese culture, hoping to contribute to the cause with her efforts.
The China Cultural Center will expand Yu’s initiative by acquiring more Hanfu sets from China for exhibition and dressing purposes. This move aims to further promote and preserve traditional Chinese clothing and cultural heritage
