KOTA KINABALU: A fifth crocodile has been caught as firemen continue their search for a missing man from Kota Marudu district.
The latest reptile, measuring 4.9m long, was caught after it fell into a trap set up over the past few days, following the victim’s disappearance on Wednesday (Sept 11) evening.
Fire and rescue officials said that this latest capture was made at a river in Kg Marudu Darat at around 8.47am, Monday (Sept 16).
However, there are still no signs of the victim – Razis Amat, 35.
Previously, Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) director Roland Oliver Niun said that four crocodiles have been captured since Razis was reported missing.
He said three of the reptiles were caught through hook-baiting while another was shot, adding that the crocodiles were between 1.5m and 3.6m in length.
In the tragic incident, Razis was swimming with his 17-year-old nephew when he suddenly disappeared.
The teenager escaped but Razis was feared to have been mauled by a crocodile.
The latest crocodile to be captured will be handed over to the SWD for further action while rescuers continue their operation to search for the missing man.
