According to Le Monde newspaper, firefighters in France have been contending with a fire at a storage facility containing about 900 tons of lithium-ion batteries.

The blaze began on February 17 at a warehouse in the town of Viviez in Aveyron prefecture, owned by recycling company Société Nouvelle d’Affinage des Métaux, as reported by the French newspaper last Sunday, and confirmed by local authorities and TV news.

Worries about the flammability of lithium-ion batteries have hampered the worldwide growth of the electric vehicle industry, although firms like Tesla Inc have argued that the matter is exaggerated.

As per the Le Monde report, by February 18, the emergency services at the French warehouse had managed to bring the fire under control, but they were still making efforts to put it out. – Bloomberg
