    Floods: 601 evacuees seeking shelter in Johor following heavy rains on Oct 6

    JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in the state currently sits at 601 people from 163 families following heavy rainfall that occurred on Sunday (Oct 6).

    The state disaster management committee, in a statement Tuesday (Oct 8), said that, as of 8am, the majority of the victims were from Kluang with 334 people, followed by Pontian with 250 people, and Batu Pahat with 17 people.

    “There are currently four temporary relief centres (PPS) in operation, which house 601 people from 163 families.

    “The PPS with the most evacuees is at SK Sungai Linau in Kluang with 177 people and SK Seri Anom in Pontian with 148 people,” it said in the statement.

    The committee added that so far there were no warnings of bad weather and rivers with dangerous level warnings as of 8am Tuesday.
