In Kuala Krai, residents in low-lying areas are bracing themselves for yet another wave of flooding as the relentless rain continues for the past two days. Those living near the river, in particular, are taking precautions to minimize the potential damage.

Siti Zulaika Awang, a 25-year-old resident of Kampung Kebun Pisang in Chenulang, emphasized the vulnerability of her house to flooding due to its close proximity to the river. As a result, she has already started relocating household items and equipment to higher ground to ensure their safety in case of flooding.

She mentioned, “People here are already prepared to face the next wave of floods because our house is close to the river. If the river starts overflowing, we will immediately move to the nearby temporary relief centre (PPS) at SK Chenulang.”

Another resident, Ain Syafiqah Mohd Zuki, explained that she had to take a boat to work because the ferry was not in service due to the rising water levels of Sungai Kelantan in Kampung Pasir Kelang. She also expressed concern about the safety of river crossings during heavy rains and the potential for accidents.

Residents were observed moving their vehicles to higher and safer ground to prevent damage as a precautionary measure. The community is taking these steps to minimize the impact of the anticipated flooding.

According to a statement from MetMalaysia on Wednesday, a severe level warning of continuous heavy rains has been issued for Terengganu and nine localities in Kelantan until Thursday. The affected areas in Kelantan are Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh, and Kuala Krai. The continuous heavy rains are expected to persist until Thursday according to the statement.
