As of 8am on Wednesday (Nov 22), a total of 5,202 individuals were seeking shelter in 38 flood relief centres across three states. The number of evacuees had increased in Terengganu and Kelantan, while remaining the same in Perak.
In TERENGGANU, the situation had worsened in six flood-affected districts, with the number of evacuees rising to 4,787 on Wednesday morning from 4,476 the previous night.
The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee secretariat reported that Kuala Nerus, where 1,486 people from 388 families were seeking shelter at 13 relief centres, was the worst-hit district. Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu had 1,095 people from 319 families at five relief centres.
Additionally, 637 people from 148 families had been evacuated to four relief centres in Besut, 1,227 people from 307 families in Marang (seven relief centres), eight people from three families in Setiu (one relief centre), and 23 people from five families in Dungun (one relief centre).
At the same time, the publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my/aras-air website indicated that the levels of Sungai Nerus at Kampung Bukit, Sungai Setiu at Kampung Besut, and Sungai Setiu at Jambatan Permaisuri had reached the alert point. The Parit Utama station at Padang Kemunting in Kuala Nerus had also surpassed the danger level.
Meanwhile, in KELANTAN, the number of evacuees had increased to 376 (97 families) on Wednesday morning, compared to 316 (80 families) the previous night.
According to the Disaster Info portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), all 376 evacuees were taking shelter at seven relief centres in Pasir Puteh, Bachok, and Machang.
Moreover, Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang had exceeded the danger level.
