As of 8pm on Sunday (Jan 7), the number of flood victims in Johor has risen to 3,322 individuals, with six districts suffering from the effects of the flooding.

According to the state disaster management committee, the district with the highest number of flood victims is Kota Tinggi, where 1,638 people have been evacuated from their homes.

Other affected districts include Kluang with 863 victims, Johor Baru with 733 victims, Kulai with 62 victims, Segamat with 20 victims, and Pontian with six victims.

“The 3,322 victims belong to 1,007 families who are currently being housed at 45 temporary relief centres (PPS),” the committee stated.

The PPS with the highest number of victims is at SK Bukit Mutiara in Tebrau, accommodating 254 people, and SK Laksamana in Kota Tinggi, housing 243 people.

Nine rivers in the state, including Sungai Kahang in Kluang, Sungai Siam in Kulai, and others in affected districts, have reached dangerous levels due to the flood.

Tiram assemblyman Azizul Bachok mentioned that the road leading towards PPS SK Nam Heng was cut off due to flooding, and ongoing rescue operations are in place.

He stated, “This year’s flood is quite severe, as areas that have never been affected before, such as Jalan Atmo in Sungai Tiram, are now submerged. As of 8pm, there are 258 victims in Tiram.”
