Heavy rain in Johor has led to an increase in the number of evacuees at temporary relief centers, with 456 people seeking shelter at noon, up from 338 earlier in the day, authorities said on Sunday.
Segamat is the latest district to be affected, with 20 people from five families being relocated to PPS Kampung Batu Badak at 10am, according to the state disaster management committee.
“Another two roads in Kota Tinggi have been closed to all vehicles at Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang (FT91) and Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kulai (FT94) after they were flooded,” the committee said in a statement. “Road users can use the alternative route through the Kota Tinggi-Mersing bypass (FT003) to Kluang and Jalan Semanggar (J224) to Kota Tinggi.”
Kota Tinggi has the highest number of flood victims with 229, followed by Mersing with 123, Kluang with 84, and Segamat.
“As of noon, there are 10 PPS in operation, with the majority of the victims located at PPS Dewan Kampung Tersusun Seri Delima in Kota Tinggi with 130 people and SK Air Papan in Mersing with 123 people,” it added.
Three rivers have recorded a dangerous level, namely Sungai Kahang in Kampung Contoh in Kluang, Sungai Kepala Orang in Kampung Jaya, Kota Tinggi, and Sungai Skudai near Kampung Laut in Johor Baru.
