The flood situation in Kedah, Malaysia is showing signs of improvement as only three relief centers are still operating as of 8pm on Saturday (Sept 30). These centers are accommodating 437 evacuees from 147 families. This is a significant improvement from the earlier recorded 1,383 victims from 420 families in 12 centers at 8am on the same day.
According to Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, the chief of the Kedah Civil Defense Force disaster management secretariat, the three relief centers that are still operational in Kota Setar are SK Taman Aman with 277 victims from 95 families, SK Seri Gunung with 103 people from 33 families, and SMK Alor Merah with 57 victims from 19 families.
Muhammad Suhaimi added that nine centers, one in Kubang Pasu, two in Kota Setar, two in Pokok Sena, and four in Baling have been closed in the afternoon on the same day.
“A total of nine centres, one in Kubang Pasu, two in Kota Setar, two in Pokok Sena and four in Baling were closed this afternoon,” he said in a statement here Saturday night. – Bernama
