The Melaka Immigration Department carried out a raid on a budget hotel in Taman Melaka Raya, during which a suspected sex worker tried to escape by climbing out of a third-floor window. The 27-year-old woman descended 6 meters to the ground, but was apprehended by the raiding officers. The incident occurred at 6pm on Monday (Nov 6), and the woman was unharmed, according to State Immigration director Anirwan Fauzee Mohd Aini.
In addition to the captured sex worker, 12 other illegal immigrants involved in offering sex services via social media were arrested during the raid. Anirwan Fauzee explained that the operation was conducted following two weeks of intelligence gathering, which indicated that these foreigners were engaging in immoral activities at the budget hotel.
According to preliminary findings, the women involved in the illicit activities were between the ages of 25 and 35, and charged RM250 to RM350 per session. Two local men who had utilized their services, as well as the hotel staff, were summoned as witnesses. The authorities also confiscated items such as condoms and birth control pills during the raid.
None of the women detained possessed valid travel documents or work permits, as confirmed by Anirwan Fauzee. All the detainees were subsequently taken to Machap Umboo Immigration Camp, where they now face investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
