The suspect has been placed under remand for three days, until Wednesday (Feb 14), as Comm Kumar informed. He added that the case is being looked into under the provisions of Section 427 of the Penal Code, dealing with the offense of committing mischief, which upon conviction can result in a prison sentence of one to five years, a fine, or both. The police chief urged the public to refrain from speculative comments which could disrupt the investigation, and advised all road users to exercise patience and considerateness, particularly during the holiday period to ensure everyone’s safety.
Earlier reports had detailed the police search for the owner of a Singapore-registered car implicated in the NSE incident, involving the shattering of another vehicle’s window. Comm Kumar disclosed that a complaint was filed at 2.36pm on Saturday (Feb 10), with a video recording of the altercation subsequently going viral on social media. “Early investigation found that the incident was caused by the victim’s action of blocking the suspect’s vehicle (on) the emergency lane along the highway. This caused the suspect, who we believe to be a foreigner, to be dissatisfied, so he got out and broke the rear window of the victim’s car,” he explained.
