    Four-day remand for driver of lorry that crashed into Pekan house

    PEKAN: The driver of a lorry that crashed into a house here, killing two people, has been remanded for four days.

    The remand order for the 40-year-old driver was issued by Magistrate Melody Woon Sze Mun for investigation under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

    Earlier, the driver, escorted by police, arrived at the court around 9.45am and appeared calm in his orange lock-up attire as he was led out at around 10.10am on Sunday (Aug 4).

    In the incident at about 4.15am on Saturday (Aug 3), the driver, who was transporting goods from Johor Bahru to Kuantan, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house on the right side of the road.

    Nurnazatul Fasiha Nasruddin, 32, was killed at the scene, while her brother Mohd Waldon Faris, 21, died at Pekan Hospital.

    The victims’ parents, Norrulaini Mohd Hassan, 54, and Nasruddin Othman, 60, along with family friend Muhammad Gabriel Miqhael Muhammad Faidzal, 19, sustained injuries and are being treated at Pekan Hospital. – Bernama
