Four Indonesian men have been detained by authorities in connection with the killing of a 47-year-old Indonesian worker in the Keningau district of Sabah.
Supt Yampil Garai, the head of the Keningau District Police, confirmed that the suspects, aged between 17 and 37, were apprehended separately in different parts of the district on Saturday (Sept 2) between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Garai said that the arrests took place near the roadside of Kampung Bunga Raya in Keningau and also in the vicinity of the Sapong-Tenom oil palm plantation.
The police are currently working on establishing the motive behind the murder.
The victim, who was still alive when discovered, was found by a passerby in an orchard in Kampung Batu 27, along the Tenom-Keningau road at approximately 4 p.m. on August 27.
“The victim was unconscious but still had vital signs. He was subsequently taken to Keningau Hospital for further medical attention.
“However, it was later confirmed that he had died the following day due to internal bleeding in the brain caused by the assault,” the official said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 3).
Despite this, the incident was only reported to the police at around 9.50 p.m. on August 29.
“Following the investigation, two women and a man were initially taken into custody by the police to assist with the investigation in order to locate the four primary suspects involved in the case,” he added.
These developments ultimately led to the individual arrests of the four main suspects.
