IPOH: Four men were arrested for allegedly stealing Telekom Malaysia cables in Sungai Siput.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the suspects aged between 26 and 45 years old were arrested at 5.30am on Friday (Aug 30) in the Kampung Temin area.

“The results of the urine tests conducted on the suspects showed all four tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 30).

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

All the suspects have been remanded for four days from August 30 to Sept 2.

The police also seized four cut sections of Telekom Malaysia cables, a vehicle and equipment believed to have been used to cut the cables.

Separately, Comm Azizi said that the Sungai Siput district police have opened 12 investigation papers related to cable theft crimes from Jan 1.

“Six cases have been solved, six others are still under investigation, while seventeen suspects have been arrested, including one foreign national,” he said.

He also urged the public to come forward to assist the police in providing information to combat crime.

“The police will not compromise with any criminal behaviour that could jeopardise public safety and property,” he added.
