In Tanjung Tokong, four Nepali men were apprehended by the police during a raid on an apartment. The men were found to be conducting online gambling activities, bringing in a monthly revenue of RM15,000 to RM20,000. The North-East OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid revealed that the raid was carried out under Op Dadu at 5pm on Thursday, leading to the arrest of the four men, who were between the ages of 27 and 32.
Razlam Ab Hamid mentioned that the police confiscated three laptops, a modem, 10 mobile phones, chairs, desks, and writing equipment from the apartment. The police believe that the apartment was rented by the syndicate for the past three months for their operations. The syndicate’s main tactic was to use Facebook to promote various online gambling games targeting customers in Nepal using computers and mobile phones.
Regarding the passports of the suspects, it was mentioned that the police would check with the Immigration Department to verify their authenticity. The investigation revealed that the four men initially arrived in Malaysia to work in a different sector. However, unable to secure jobs, they were recruited by the syndicate with monthly salaries between RM1,500 and RM2,000.
Razlam Ab Hamid further stated that the investigation is ongoing to apprehend the syndicate. The four suspects have been remanded for three days and the case will be investigated under Section (4)(1) (g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. – Bernama
