Four shops at the Larkin Market in Johor Baru were destroyed by a fire that broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning, July 23.
The Larkin Fire and Rescue Department deployed 27 firemen to the scene after receiving a call at approximately 6.50am. According to Mohd Faiz Suleiman, the department’s operation commander, the fire caused extensive damage to two book stores, with approximately 90% of their structures destroyed. In addition, a shop selling cosmetics and herbs suffered 70% damage, while a perfume shop experienced 10% damage.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The fire was brought under control at around 8.25am, but operations are still ongoing at the site. The Larkin Market, also known as Pasar Awam Larkin, is situated near the Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal in Johor Baru.
